The Australian Institute of Architects International Chapter has announced the winners of the 2015 International Architecture Awards which recognize projects by Australian architects overseas. From 26 entries, five received awards and four were commended by the jury.
Kerry Hill Architects took out two categories. Aman Tokyo, with its re-interpretation of a Japanese garden in a six-storey hotel lobby, “was by far the most sophisticated submission of [the Interior] category.” said the jury. In the Residential category Kerry Hill Architects’ Seven Palms Sentosa Cove was awarded along with Vulkanen: Aarhus Student Housing by Terroir and CUBO Arkitekter in association.

In the Public Architecture category, the jury awarded the Pico Branch Library by Koning Eizenberg Architecture Inc. The project arose from a design process that encouraged public participation through a series of workshops. As the jury explained, it thoughtfully preserves existing green space and repurposes underutilised areas to reinvigorate a park, fostering a reconnection with institutional resources and overall community empowerment.
