Casa Williamson, in the South Pacific of Costa Rica, intends to respond to the conditions of a tropical site, with spectacular views of the ocean. The “partí” is quite simple: elongated and narrow, as if wanting that the whole house be a window, easy to ventilate naturally and well protected from the sun and rains by extremely large roof overhands, seeking to strongly express tropical architecture of the “here and now.” Its modern tropical design has a strong relationship with its location.
The formal or aesthetic expression is a direct result of the conditions and of our interpretations of place. We oppose large glass surfaces and flat roofs because they are anti tropical. Thus, the house is carefully punctured to frame the views and allow for good functioning with the local climate.
