National Heritage Board of Poland The National Heritage Board of Poland and Wilanów Palace Museum are organising a conference on the use of scientific methods to reconstruct the original layout surrounding the former royal palace: "RESTORING WILANÓW - NEW DIRECTIONS IN RESEARCH AND RECORDING FOR THE RESTORATION OF HISTORIC PROPERTIES, BUILDINGS AND GARDENS". The two-day conference on 15-16 October 2008 will be held in the Wilanów Palace, Warsaw. The organisers and members of the supporting Scientific Council wish to present the latest research and recording techniques in archaeology, architecture, art history and conservation, which have great value to similar projects elsewhere. Keynote speakers will include Lucy Worsley and Brian Dix {both UK}, who will examine the role of archeology and related studies in restoring historic structures and gardens respectively, and Andrzej Golembnik who will highlight in the integrated approach developed at Wilanow. The conference sessions on the first day will be largely concerned with work at Wilanów but the second day will aim to offer papers dealing with the experience of similar projects in the other countries. Potential contributors are invited to submit a title and synopsis as soon as possible for early consideration. Please note that the languages of presentation to the conference will be English and Polish. The conference will conclude with a panel discussion and there will be a poster session for which application should be made. There is the possibility to include an additional day following the official conference, providing an excursion in Warsaw.
