Studio Fuksas completes ’instrument-like’ Music Theatre and Exhibition Hall in Georgia

Studio Fuksas, led by Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, completes new Music Theatre and Exhibition Hall in Rhike Park, in Tbilisi, Georgia. After a six-years of construction, the building presents itself in the landscape like 'an instrumental tool' with its changing zig-zag skin according to rotation of the sun. The building is created by soft shaped elements that are connected as a unique body at the retaining wall.

Studio Fuksas designates two different functions to the building as it can be understood from its name; The Musical Theatre and the Exhibition Hall, which are placed in reverse direction in a fragmented landscape of the city to capture the city view and the river scene. The north part of the building consists of The Musical Theatre Hall, featuring 566 seats, and contains the foyer and several facilities, together with technical spaces for theatre machinery and various storages.

The Exhibition Hall opens his great entrance with a ramp that brings visitors from the street level so that they can reach the building easily. The Music Theatre Hall, on the contrary, soars from the ground and allows the users staying in the foyer and in the cafeteria to have a view to the river and the skyline of the city. Studio Fuksas' non-symmetrical buildings looks like they randomly dropped from the air and took their shapes according to environmental conditions that they will be able to benefit.

New Music Theatre and Exhibition Hall are covered by steel structure and neutral colours that change the building's skin in different times of the day adapting to environment. These two sculptural buildings presents different spatial experience to interact with both environment and the building itself.
