This year's Lisbon Architecture Triennale, the 5th edition, commenced on 3 October, 2019, with the theme "Poetics of Reason". The triennale will progress until 2 December, 2019 carrying forward over 10 exhibitions, awards and associated projects. The chief curator, Eric Lapierre, is the Principal of Paris based Eric Lapierre Experience (ELEx).

Poetics of Reason essentially intends to put forth Architecture as a debate of the esoteric versus the ordinary. We understand Architecture as a seemingly "subjective and non-scientific dimension", while it does rest on certain reasons. The triennale throws light on the existence of this paradoxical understanding and deduce Architecture to the contemporary ordinary situation.

The theme suggests that the "massification" of construction today has entitled everyone to comprehend Architecture without a specialised background study. The theme indeed encourages the thought that Architecture is grounded in reason and rationale, making it shareable with everyone, beyond just architects.

The Lisbon Architecture Triennale has been active since its first edition in 2007. The event, the only one of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula, has grown to become an influential platform for the development and challenge of the broader international discourse on architecture.
