Call for registrations to 24H's bigData competition to imagine something

24H, a competition branch of ideasforward, is calling for new ideas about its themed-based international competition, titled "bigData" in its 23rd edition. The competition will explore a big thing, space, structure, information or data, completely leaving to the imagination of the participants for "an immeasurable" thing on earth with its size or variation.

Ideasforward wants to give young creative people from around the world the opportunity to express their views on the future of societies through their innovative and visionary proposals. 24H is an experimental platform seeking progressive ideas that reflect on emerging themes. The eco design, sustainable architecture, new materials, concepts and technologies are compelling issues in the societies of the future and the involvement of the whole community is imperative.

In an era of globalization where communication was dominated by the technological revolution, there is the need to rethink the cities and how Man relates in a global World as well as rethink the economic, social and cultural patterns of contemporary societies. The young creatives and thinkers are a precious commodity that we value a lot and so we want to give them a voice.

World Architecture Community is media partner for 24H Competitions and will announce the results on World Architecture Community news. 

Aim of the Competition - 24H

A space where the time limit is used to stimulate your creativity. This competition proposes give responses in 24H to the social problems, future visions, climate changes, humanitarian causes and sociologic problems of the contemporary societies. 

Commitment, perseverance, inspiration and hard work are the necessary bases to develop a proposal that meets the premises that will be released regularly in the brief of the competition. 

24H challenges you to prove your talent in 24 hours! 

There are a period of registration on the competition, when it end, started the 24H competition! 

You have 24H to develop a proposal that responds to the program contained on a brief that you only know on the same day that start competition.

Imagine the speed. Imagine the complexity. Let us imagine the variability. Imagine the variety. Imagine a dimension of information so big that wanting to account for it, is simply impossible. Imagine what is going on around us. Imagine what we can see and not see. Imagine information.

Beginning of the registration period: February 19th

Promotional registration period from: February 19th to February 25th at 23:59 - Fee €20 

Regular registration period from: February 26th to March 27th at 23:59 - Fee €25

Late period of registration from: March 28th to April 7th at 11:59 - Fee €30

During the competition period: Fee €50

Publication of winners and honorable mentions at the competition website on May 18,, 2018.

The competition begins at April 7th 12:00 noon and ends at April 8th 12:00 noon (London GMT + 0:00)

João Belo Rodeia (Leiria, 1961) was the President of the Order of Architects of Portugal between 2008 and 2013. He has also been President of the International Council of Portuguese-Language Architects and of the Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage (2003-2005). He teaches at the University of Évora and at the Lusíada University in Lisbon. Besides lecturing in many countries and regularly publishing articles in the Portuguese press, he has written several books and curated exhibitions. Rodeia is a member of the Expert Committee of the European Prize for Urban Public Space since the 2012 edition.

Fatih Yavuz was born in 1981 in Foça, İzmir. He graduated from İzmir İnönü High School in 1998 and completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Architecture of METU in 2003.

He completed his graduate studies in the same department by the dissertation of the thesis titled “The Architecture of New Territories: The Dutch Embassy in Berlin” in 2006. He took part in various competitions and architectural projects in Dr. Semra Teber and Semra-Özcan Uygur Architecture Offices between the years 2002 – 2004. He was a member of the organization team of 7th National Meeting of Architecture Students “Buluşma7” organized at METU on February 2003.

He got the “1st Honorable Mention” award in Archiprix-TR 2003 with his graduation project “Maçka Hotel”. As an instructor, he attended the design studio at METU, Faculty of Architecture and TOBB Economy and Technology University. Also he participated in various architectural design studios as a guest jury member. Also he participated in various architectural design studios as jury member.
In addition to his architectural practice, he attends workshops and events as a member of TSMD and Mimarlar Derneği 1927.
As a co-founder of FREA, Fatih continues his architectural practices with Emre Şavural in Ankara.

António Câmara is a Professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has a BS (IST, 1977), and a PhD in Civil Engineering (Virginia Tech, 1982). He was a Visiting Professor at Cornell University (1988-89) and MIT (1998 -99). António Câmara has more than 200 international publications, including the book Environmental Systems, (Oxford University Press, 2002)

He is a serial entrepreneur having started three public companies: YDreams Global (listed in Toronto); Azorean (Euronext Paris); and Ynvisible (Toronto). Antonio Camara received Pessoa Award in 2006, and an EU Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2008.

Pedro Vada is an architect and urbanist based in São Paulo, professor at Escola da Cidade and Estácio de Sá University. Developed several urban projects and works as Projects Editor at ArchDaily.

Diogo Burnay graduated in Architecture at the Faculdade de Arquitetura, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal (FA-UTL). He has a Masters from the Bartlett, University College London, where hecurrently is an external examiner. He worked in Lisbon, London and in Macau with Manuel Vicente.

He has taught and lectured in schools in Hong Kong, in Europe. He was Cass Gilbert Professor at CALA and CDes, University of Minnesota, in 2002 and 2006. He was also the Ralph Hawkins Professor at the School of Architecture,University of Texas, Arlington, in 2007. He taught design studio from 1997 to 2011 at the Faculdade de Arquitectura (FA -UTL) before becoming the director of the School of Architecture at Dalhouse University, in Halifax – Canada.

Conditions for participating

Participation can be individual or as a group. Participants must be over 18 years old. In the case of groups, the leader must be over 18 years old.
