I have been involved in teaching, research and practice since my graduation in 2001.
Teaching and research has been at the core, having spent the time since my graduation attempting to evolve projects and assignments (in various capacities) that would invoke a sense of inquiry and investigation within each student, leading to a fulfilled sense of discovery and hence, learning. Papers and writings focus on transformations necessary to broaden the scope of architectural education and to bring in a deep sense of meaning and purpose to what is still regarded as a mere ‘technical’ field (in India) associated merely with ‘functional utility’. Expanding this limited understanding of architecture amongst both, the lay and the practitioner is an ongoing quest. In this respect I have been a keen observer of the changing landscape of contemporary architecture since the early 1990’s, and am involved in exploring, understanding, documenting and communicating these observations in various forums.
This methodology of inquiry also permeates into an investigative and collaborative practice where projects and competitions are used as a test-bed to raise questions that deal with issues related not only with typology, but significantly culture, geography and their interaction, as well as the important aspect of human experience, materiality and (what we now know as) the idea of phenomenology that is intertwined with building traditions. Each project thus attempts at a synthesis of the often complex and contradictory forces that inhabit each site, and hence becomes a collective learning experience.
