The Project is located on a corner site in the intersection of Adnan Menderes Avenue and Sakarya Avenue. Both Adnan Menderes Avenue and Sakarya Avenue are situated in an increasingly developing area of the city which means that each of them hold an important vehicle and pedestrian potential.

The site in which the building has been situated has been investigated. Was there any contextual design problem? There was no contextual building, no physical impact neither a slope that would affect the design. Finding a relation between the weak junction and the future expanding area of the city was hard. There were no stand outs other than the passing cars and the passing clouds. That’s why we started to think about the passing and transient analogy and the stopping places which break the transitions. These thoughts led us to the Anatolian covered bazaars and commercial small scale caravanserai that provided an inspiration for the Project.

As a commercial building the covered bazaar with outside shops and the caravanserai cell on the top of the commercials’ typology is adumbratively used on the building perimeter on both floors. The building was trying to settle in an undefined site with an ambiguous context, in the middle of an unformed landscape surrounded by avenues on both sides. Located on a transitional urban area, the building had to imply this transition state on its program as well. However the program included rental commercial areas until it was completed. During the design process including accommodation has been an issue. This commercial variety, industry oriented tendency, either it would be used by a single or multiple business was undefined. This was the first time we constructed with a completely undefined program.

The building projects the corner properties in the plan scheme and the 3rd dimension. The concave crossroads corner was created in order to keep an obtuse angle vista on the upper floors and an urban continuity of the pedestrian movement at the ground floors defined by commercial unit/s, reflecting the mini square. The roof and first floor was set as a monoblok with a single material. In order to lighten the general structural mass, strengthen the porosity on human scale and increase the appeal of commercial units the ground floors facades looking on the avenues were established as transparent as possible. Both of these vertical effects were created with the aim of eliminating the lack of proportion arising from the area expansion and the zoning status height restrictions. Roof cladding material, locked metal coating, descends on the first floor to frame the Shell.
The architectural function program has been constituted of retail and rental Office units which are arranged flexibly enabling fragmentation and enlargement possibilities.

The building constitute of concrete and steel structure. The steel structure on the top of the basement and ground floor transformed the building composite. The steel structure allowing large spans provides flexibility in terms of dividing the units in required sizes. The cladding material of the roof top and walls in the top floor is locked metal sheets.
