This project was called “ Phawanasewaleemahathayra” and used for different activities by monks for 30 years. It is now designed to feature more functions, including housing the collection of books which the temple has been producing since 1967.
The 300 –sqm-building consists of “Dhamma book museum” on the second floor where the bookshelves are placed in the middle to protect from the sun,and to create a space for exhibitions by students from various architecture schools. It is the temple’s head monk’s idea to link the knowledge of the two worlds.
The first exhibition is ASA VERNADOC 2008, which is vernacular between the Temple. This space can be used only during the day. Not having electricity, candlelight provides illumination for meditation ai night.
The ground floor splits into two parts, the service and storage part and a multifunctional part that is flexible.
The architect fully allows air and natural light flow into the building that has no windows at all. “My inspiration is the beetle , which has a complicated structure with a hard shell covering soft wings inside. So I created a multi-layer wall with different functions. For mood and tone of the place, I recall the serenity of a tunnel whose end shows a bright destination.”
A striking orange robe on the grey wall can be seen from every corner of the building. The architect intends to employ this symbol to convey the simple principle of Lord Buddha, while the south wall is painted in gold and leads to an image of the Buddha, made by Eakapol Srisuwithanon. The fossil of trees placed on the ground also refers to Buddhist philosophy.
Architect maintains simplicity and aspect of economy. The hardest part lies in the foundation, which is under a hard layer of rockey mountainside. The architect interestingly creates and under ground tank with a storage capacity of 200,000 liters of water.

Called ?€?Phawanasewaleemahathayra?€, the building was used for different activities by monks for the last 30 years. It is now re-designed to feature more functions, including housing the collection of books which the temple has been producing since 1967.
