The design of the building is inspired from the serenity of the surrounding environment. The building is constructed of form-finished concrete along with the contrasting elements like glass and stainless steel. The whole composition of the residence is a play of solids and voids represented by projecting masses and terraces in some occasions or by deep recesses in others. The sensitive use of minute details, like steel railing, glass brick, marble, wood etc in the interior goes smoothly with the main concept of creating a peaceful homely atmosphere responsive to the unique natural setting. The intentional rugged texture of the concrete expresses its monumental character under bright daylight.

Interior material finishes include Italian marble, mirror finish Terrazzo Tiles and Glazed Homogenous tiles at floor, Granite and Ceramic glazed tiles re on the walls. Structural columns in the social spaces are left as cast and form finished. The lounge and community area at the entrance level are guarded with patterned concrete tiled pave and form finished concrete wall. Windows are glazed with natural colour aluminium framed glass panes of green tinted glass to evoke the surrounding.

In this project, the relationship binding surrounding urban fabric, site and building was examined and became the dynamic influence in the total design process while the building emphasized the joining up of people and nature around. The intimate living environment of this prestigious neighbourhood has gradually deteriorated under the advance of urban sprawl, bringing monolithic, stereotyped developer built boxes of various colours. Walls have therefore been created to its west and road face to insulate this residence from its surroundings and to create a rich interior space. The internal living spaces are so designed to get the maximum exposure towards the waterfront and terraces reflecting tropical family living-style of this region.

The Residence is a very simple building with “monumentality” but the variations in the transition of interior-exterior interaction are expressed in its skin formed by the “volumes” and “non-volumes” (invariably the verandas). The individual units are expressed in the staggered facades modulated with the projecting like verandas. The buildings surroundings were evoked in its interior spaces. The duplex block internally fused through a communal space at the lake face dedicated for living and dining use. The building as it rose above the ground and faced to the lake has been distinguished by overlooking verandas and to the south green field to form elevation punches or sectional depth. Taking Gulshan Lake into consideration was a way of placing verandas projecting from the main cube of mass towards lake. Volumes of masses, although express their distinctions in physical segregation of each individual blocks and functions yet a coherent combined effect of a single icon of establishment is clearly attempted to characterize the statement of becoming a paradigm of context responsive architecture.
