One of the features highlighted the most by ARCOmadrid participants is that it should be a meeting point for professionals from around the world and a space for the guests and galleries taking part to generate and exchange ideas. Once again, in 2014, about 150 museum directors and curators will be invited.
In 2014 the Professional Meetings will involve a team of directors who will again call on a carefully selected group of experts to attend the various sessions: Ruba Katrib, curator at the Sculpture Center, New York; Martha Kirszenbaum, independent curator in Paris and Los Angeles; Paula Toppila, Executive Director of the IHME Contemporary Art Festival in Helsinki; Irene Hofmann and Lucía San Román, director and curator of SITE Santa Fe; Juan de Nieves, director of Rupert Vilna; Miguel Amado, independent curator; Hans Ulrich Obrist, co-director of The Serpentine Gallery, in London, and Simon Castets, director of the Swiss Institute, New York.
The Fair will also host the Meeting of European and Latin American Museums, run by Joao Fernandes, artistic deputy director at the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía (MNCARS); Jesús Carrillo, head of cultural programmes at MNCARS, andRosario Peiró, head of collections at MNCARS. This will bring more than 30 museum and art centre directors to Madrid, to exchange projects and visit ARCOmadrid. Similarly, museum representatives from more than 15 countries will be able to participate in the meeting organised by ADACE (Spanish Association of Contemporary Art Directors).
And associations such as CIMAM (International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art) and IACCA(International Association of Corporate Collections of Contemporary Art) will also organise meetings and sessions during the Fair.
