In consideration of the central role of Carlo Scarpa {Venice 1906-Sendai 1978} in the panorama of contemporary architecture, the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali and the Regione del Veneto formed, in 2002, a Comitato paritetico Carlo Scarpa {Joint Committee}, with the goal of increasing the awareness, conservation, and valorisation of the work of the Veneto architect, as well as of the archive of his drawings recently acquired by the Italian state. In particular, with article 41 of the regional finance bill of 2002 and ensuing, the Regione del Veneto has assigned important resources to an integrated group of initiatives promoted and supported by the Comitato paritetico. Above all are the cognitive study, survey and restoration of a group of buildings by Scarpa, among these the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona, the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice, the Gipsoteca Canoviana in Possagno and the Gallo house in Vicenza. At the same time, the Regione del Veneto has undertaken a systematic campaign to acquire drawings by Carlo Scarpa from private collections and has deposited these at the Museo di Castelvecchio. With the digitalisation of the Museo di Castelvecchio drawings, which can be consulted on the Internet, the first nucleus of the computer system CARLO SCARPA ARCHIVE has been launched. In addition, at the Centro Internazionale di Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio, a photo library of the architect’s works has been started, with the collection of historical photos, the realisation of a new photographic campaign, and the project for a video library of interviews with patrons, collaborators, interlocutors, and executors.Since 2000 the CISA and the Museo di Castelvecchio organise a high-level course every year on the work of Scarpa aimed toward young European scholars and architects; this complements the day of studies organised by the Fondazione Querini Stampalia. Finally, a series of publications gathers the various scientific and research contributions.
