Rojkind Arquitectos receives PA Citation Award for its project:Liverpool Department Store
Rojkind Arquitectos receives PA Citation Award for its project:Liverpool Department Store, Insurgentes featuring a "habitable façade'''
This year the jurors recognized ten projects that focused on innovation geared towards “practical realization”. The project's “deep wall system” is able to house a variety of programmatic options and branded content and is made possible thanks to a “digital design / local fabrication” model that kept the project attainable.
Partner Gerardo Salinas was in New York for the 61st annual PA Awards celebration; “It will be a very dynamic façade, not only because of its architecture, but as a result of all the activities that will take place within it. It will be constantly changing and will add a sense of performance that will intrigue the pedestrian walking by the building” he said. “We are always exploring new ways in which the architecture can serve the clients and the users…” added founding partner Michel Rojkind.
The firm took on the challenge of breaking the traditional retail “big box” model, with no connection to the outside, and gave it a permeable and animated envelope where inside activity can be showcased and interact with urban activity. The porous habitable façade -made of varied size hexagons in fiberglass, steel, aluminum and glass- can house a variety of temporary programs and/or experiences giving the store a renewed urban presence.
Rojkind Arquitectos is the second Mexican firm to obtain this recognition. “This project was made possible thanks to the fluid collaborative effort of all the team members involved and especially thanks to the client”, concluded Salinas.

61st Annual Progressive Architecture Award

ARCHITECT Magazine's Progressive Architecture (P/A) Awards recognize unbuilt projects demonstrating overall design excellence and innovation.

The P/A Awards are a leading barometer of emerging trends and talent in architecture. Now in its 61th year, the annual program, also known as the Progressive Architecture Awards, recognizes real projects during the design and construction phases, prior to their completion. An international jury of leading design professionals selects the winning projects from among hundreds of submissions, all of which will be built in North America or were designed by North American architects. Past winners and jurors include midcentury masters such as Marcel Breuer and Eero Saarinen as well as noted contemporaries such as Thom Mayne and Zaha Hadid.
