Learning from vernacular housing
Interest in the process of building, in self-build, and concern for material sustainability, has led some green builders to reconsider vernacular forms of housing. That is, learning from traditional practices and techniques that out of necessity were restricted to local materials and low energy and water inputs for services. Solutions to old material constraints are interpreted into the new social desire for environmental restraint. Considered in ideal form, vernacular techniques have potential for green builders.
