DIGITAL DESIGN CONFERENCE

FIU Architecture will be hosting a two-day conference, "Digital Pulse in Architecture,” coordinated by Eric Goldemberg, FIU architecture assistant professor and digital design coordinator.  “Digital Pulse” will focus on the discussion and showcase of digital design to unveil the rhythmic qualities and sensations of space.  The conference will take place Friday, November 14 at 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 15 all day in the Paul L. Cejas School of Architecture Building, room 135.  Admission for this conference is free and open to the public. The symposium will be a unique event for the state of Florida, as it will showcase the work of the most relevant designers of digital production.  There will be eight participants including:  
Jeffery Kipins who has served as architecture/design curator for the Wexner Center for the Arts. His critical writings have appeared in many prestigious art and architecture journals. His books include “Choral Works: The Eisenman-Derrida Collaboration,” and “Perfect Acts of Architecture.”  
Hernan Diaz Alonso, principal and founder of Xefirotarch, a practice based in Los Angeles.  Diaz Alonso’s work was the subject of solo shows at the San Francisco MoMa in 2006, the Art Institute in Chicago and MAK centre in Vienna in 2007.  
Ali Rahim, design director at Contemporary Architecture Practice {C-A-P} in New York, known for its futuristic work using digital design and production techniques. Past exhibition venues include Artists Space, New York, Royal Institute of British Architects {RIBA}, London.  
Evan Douglis, principal of Douglis studio.  Douglis’ experimental work on digital design and fabrication technology has elicited international acclaim and has been exhibited at the ARCHILAB Conference, the LA MOCA Museum, the London and Rotterdam Biennale. 
Perry Hall, painter and musician, works stimulating paint with temperature changes, vibration, turbulence and various dynamic techniques. His exhibits can be viewed at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York, Pekin Fine Arts, Beijing, China, and the Tokyo Art Fair, Tokyo, Japan.  
David Ruy, co-director of Ruy Klien, has been awarded for a number of prestigious awards including PA Architecture Design Award and the Lowenfish Award for Design Excellence.  Klein’s research examines design topics at the intersection of architecture, nature and technology.   
Marcelo Spina, leader of PATTERNS, has gained international recognition for his work.  PATTERN’s vision is to generate innovation spatial forms that actively engage, enhance and influence the body, constantly challenging its relationship to the built environment.   
Eric Goldemberg, FIU professor, is the founding partner of Monad Architects, a Miami practice that uses cutting-edge 3D computer technology for a wide range of design scales. The work of MONAD is currently on exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.    “This conference will be an opportunity to reveal and disseminate provocative concepts and innovative fabrication techniques of contemporary architecture design, a revelation of cutting-edge technologies that are changing the way in which space is conceived and built,” says Goldemberg.     Florida International University | Paul L.
