Studio Gang has unveiled new images of Solar Carve Tower located between Manhattan’s High Line park and the Hudson River, which is shaped through the angels of the sun. 

The multifaceted office building explores how shaping a building in response to solar access and other site-specific criteria can expand its architectural potential.

Studio Gang's Solar Carve Tower presents a distinctive character derived from its intrinsic geometric relationships, which is formed between the building’s allowable envelope and the sun’s path, as well as the viewshed between the park and the Hudson. 

The studio produces a multifaceted, ''gem-like facade'', this integrated response allows the building to benefit the important public green space of the High Line—privileging light, fresh air, and river views to the public park—while also becoming a new iconic silhouette on the New York skyline.

The design further advances the Studio’s ''solar carving'' strategy for enhancing connectivity in tall buildings. Solar carving, developed through Studio Gang’s ongoing tall building research, involves using incident angles of the sun’s ray to sculpt a building’s form.

The back facade of the Solar Carve Tower looks toward Thomas Heatherwick's Pier55-a public park and performance space on Manhattan's lower west side, which is one of controversial projects of Heatherwick Studio. 

The office building features 15,492 square metres (166,750 square feet) floor space and its outdoor area is extended to High Line's park. The visual connection is provided through the building's outdoor terrace situated in the first floors of the tower. The terrace features various sitting-places with green infills.
