When architects designed their own homes, they display personal ambitions

In this piece, CNN Style's editor looked closer at architects' their own houses by showing how their ambitions, personal beliefs and ideas are embodied in the form and context. This piece is actually extracted from a book titled ''Architects' Homes" by Bethany Patch, published by the Images Publishing Group, is out now.

The above image is the personal home of the non-conformist Austrian architect Günther Domenig. The Domenig Steinhaus house, located at Lake Ossiach, Austria, is conceived as one of his iconic houses in modern architecture. The house is composed of the transformation of regional landscape elements and the architect built this home in 30 years. 

Architects use the design of their own homes both as a design experiment and as a representation of their own beliefs and ideals. Their grounding through education and experience may form a base or starting point, but the influences of their culture, lifestyle and the environment of their upbringing are naturally integrated into their architecture.....Continue Reading
