Spanish architecture firm This Is Arquitectura has completed a new guest pavilion on the frightening hill of a forest in Sa Tuna, Spain. The new guest pavilion - designed as an extension of the main house - was entirely made of corten steel with a slat facade that creates a retreat inside, a place to be and contemplate.

"Our first thought was to create a shape clear and simple, a cuboid placed in the middle of the forest, changing as less as possible the surrounding characteristics, as if it had always been there," said the architects.

The guest pavilion has a rectangular shape including two floors with a basement - the house uses the slope as the entrance of the house in this level. The entrance is embedded in the slope and the floor is used as a separate room for beverages. The basement floor is covered by exposed concrete.

The basement looks like a kind of sculptural void inside the hill, you enter on it, then you go upstairs throught it to the pavilion. The inside is designed as one space: a living and bedroom space and in one corner with a bathroom.

The east, south and west façade are totally glazed, with a solar protection made of corten steel sliding lattice. The north façade has more controlled openings that illuminate the bathroom and the entrance staircase.
