The Best Works for the European Prize for Urban Public Space 2016 will be announced today

Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCBwill announce the prize-winning works for the European Prize for Urban Public Space 2016 today. The Prize’s award ceremony will start on 18:30pm and will continue till 20pm (time zone Madrid: UTC+1). The ceremony will be broadcast online with a live streamingWorld Architecture Community will be the first to announce the winners from the Award Ceremony today. A total of 276 projects from 205 cities in 33 countries were submitted to the 9th European Prize for Urban Public Space, and the jury has shortlisted 25. The finalists are from Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Slovenia, Spain, France, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Ukraine.

The Prize is an initiative of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), jointly with The Architecture Foundation (London), the Architekturzentrum Wien (Vienna), the Institut français d’architecture / Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine (Paris), the Museum of Finnish Architecture (Helsinki), the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (Frankfurt) and the Museum of Architecture and Design (Ljubljana). The purpose of the Prize is to acknowledge and promote the public nature of urban spaces and their capacity to encourage social cohesion. It acknowledges and promotes spaces that are both public (open to everyone) and urban, with the emphasis on their relational, civic and democratizing nature.

The Jury’s decision will be withheld until 20:00 today, when the official award ceremony will take place in the Auditorium of the CCCB.
