A Rural City in a Dynamic Urban Development

7-18 December, 2015

The Forum will take place in Flers, Orne department, France

The World Federation of Young Architects (FMJA), the town of Flers, the Agglomeration Community of Pays de Flers propose, as part of the 12th Forum, to reflect on the development of the town of Flers in its role of center a rural metropolis. The community is considering a reflection on the redevelopment of the station area and the connection to the city center, with the particularity of having been rebuilt after the Second World War.

The main challenge for the future of this area is the identification of solutions promoting both the quality of life, a new image of the city (centrality) and the control of environmental impact (the peri), respect for the environment (the périrural and rural), which together constitute the rural metropolis, and the particular context of the reconstructed city centers (the new town).
In short, how to offer an innovative living environment that meets the specifics of a rural metropolis?

The organization of Forums in France allowed the French Section of the International Union of Architects and the World Federation of Young Architects, to be authorized to the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS-Habitat ) and the OECD as NGOs. Today the French Section of the UIA became the International Council of French Architects.

CIAF trusts that all space actors studied, such as elected officials, administrations, mayors, the Department, the Region and the relevant associations, developers, manufacturers, local businesses and the population, will help us to make this 12th World Forum for Young Architects in France a success.
