David Chiepperfield's Elsabeth House full planning permission has been achieved for Elizabeth House and 10 Leake Street, marking a very significant milestone for the project, and one which took nearly 5 years to achieve.

In March this year, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles decided against holding a public inquiry into the redevelopment project which had already achieved a resolution to grant planning permission from Lambeth Council in 2012. Leader of Lambeth Council Lib Peck stated that the council ‘has always believed the Elizabeth House development is absolutely consistent with the government's National Planning Policy Framework, it is fully supported by the Mayor of London and will bring considerable economic, social and cultural benefits to the area’.

Chelsfield and London&Regional Properties is planning to create a total of 132,100 square metres of development – including 85,700 square metres of new commercial floorspace, and 142 residential units. Chelsfield is committed to environmental sustainability, meeting the requirements for BREEAM Offices 2008 ‘Excellent’ and Code for Sustainable Homes 2010 Level 4. The plans take the form of two new buildings, separated by a large public square which forms a part of 10,000 square metres of new public realm running the length of the site.
